scientists discover a skinny gene

I saw something quite interesting in the news recently : scientists discover “skinny” gene.  If that’s true, then it should be made into a vitamin I can take.   I really miss the days when I had a metabolism, when I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight.  But since I got out of college and started working in a cubicle farm, that’s no longer the case.

Now, I know, some of you are thinking I should just eat less and exercise more.   If that’s what I wanted to do, I’d be skinny.  But I enjoy eating.   And while I enjoy some forms of exercise, there’s not always time to do enough of it.  If only I was genetically predisposed to be skinny, then I could eat fried chicken with biscuits & gravy more often.   Oh, and include mashed taters, too, covered with gravy.  Yeah, that’s the stuff.  And I’d order pizza a whole lot more.  I’d definitely eat much better if I was unable to gain weight.  And then I wouldn’t have to rearrange my schedule, giving up fun activities, to make more time for exercise.   And who knows, maybe if I wasn’t overweight and thus had more energy, I’d do more exercise-type activities.  As it is now, exercise makes me feel tired.

So I’m looking forward to being transformed into a skinny person by the benefits of cutting-edge science.  They need to hurry up with it, because I think a lot of people need this.

caption contest, runway model with strange glasses

It’s time for this week’s caption contest!  This week’s photo features a runway model with strange eye-wear.  I’ve always thought fashion was kinda strange, but this makes even less sense than normal.  That’s where you come in — we’ll all work together to figure out what is going on here.  Actually, the funnier you can make your explanation, the better.

free food at Arby’s

Here at Buffet o’ Blog, I usually write about funny stuff — whether original humor or linking to something that’s humorous.  But there is the occasional public service announcement, particularly when it comes to food.  Not only is food important (it’s part of a balanced breakfast), but it can be quite an enjoyable experience.

There have been numerous discussions with the staff here that turned to Arby’s food, especially their curly fries.  (We also had an excellent idea for how Arby’s could gain more impulse customers by using the natural wafting action of the aroma of their curly fries.   But so far they haven’t contacted us.)  Anyway, I’m going to speak about Arby’s again, just so you are in the know.

beef-n-cheddar

At a recent visit to Arby’s, the back of the receipt told of a survey you could take to get a free sandwich — a Regular Roast Beef or a Beef ‘n Cheddar.   Those are both around $3, so that’s something to speak of (hence the post).  The survey is really easy to complete and takes only a few minutes.   I’ve used one already to get a free sandwich.  And the best part is, upon redeeming my free sandwich, I got another survey, which led to another promotional code.  (I did make a purchase in addition to the free sandwich — had to have some curly fries!)

I don’t guarantee that this offer will last or that all receipts include the survey.  But since I’ve gotten two in a row, I figure the odds are good, and you might want to stop by there some time.  It’s nice to get free food.

trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic

Recently I came upon a new Star Wars trailer, for Star Wars: The Old Republic.  The story picks up after Knights of the Republic, but is set 3,000 years before the timeline of the Star Wars movies.

For fans of the Star Wars movies, let me warn you that this will make you want more.  This trailer is action-packed!  (And it’s not for the faint of heart.)   The story sounds good, too.

The trailer is for an upcoming MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) video game.  I wish it were an upcoming movie!  That’s certainly nothing against video games, but I just don’t have time to play an MMO that much, and this premise would make a great movie.

I’ve heard that the Star Wars movie series is supposed to be over, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are more made.  There is so much story still unused, and even if it features all new characters, such a movie would still be awesome.  This trailer is proof of that.
