our 5 year anniversary

It has been five years since we started Buffet o’ Blog, and we’ve went from obscure to world-renown.  If you think about it, 5 years in Internet years is a long time.  To celebrate, we wish we could offer everyone a free bacon-themed meal, but that’s simply not possible.  See, for the Buffet o’ Blog restaurant (tentative name), we’re waiting on just one more investor… specifically, someone with about a million dollars to invest in our dream, and then it would become a reality and be perhaps [dramatic pause] the greatest restaurant of all-time! [Imagine a loud clasp of thunder right there.]   So if you’re that investor with money burning in your pockets, have your people contact my people.

So since there’s no big worldwide party possible at this time, the staff met at a local BBQ place for lunch, then there were some “fireworks” afterward.  It was a good time.   For those who couldn’t make it, you should go eat a pizza in our honor.  Or better yet, invite us along, too!

Perhaps there will be some new features added in the next week or two in honor of our anniversary.  So stay tuned!  In the meantime, here’s some stats summing up what we’ve done so far (for the nerdy types — you know who you are).

Those last two boggle my mind, that over 500 people are reading my ramblings every day and that this blog has been viewed over half a million times in just 5 years!  Out of that many people, surely at least one or two think I’m actually funny!  🙂

And last but not least, I wanna send a big shout-out to all the regular readers and subscribers here.  I’m amazed that people actually come back!  🙂  It’s only gonna get more awesome — and I don’t even need a crystal ball to see that.  I’ll keep on writing because I am too legit… too legit to quit!  (Yeah, that’s kinda lame — please don’t unsubscribe!)  There’s some cool stuff already in the pipeline… some exclusive content you won’t find anywhere else.

Peace out… adios… buenos nachos…

hair bands of the ’80s

The decade of the ’80s saw some tacky fashion trends, too many to name here, but one that stands out is the “hair band”, where guys in rock bands had long hair — sometimes even with perms. Ugh!

Be forewarned that the following pictures are not for the squeamish. If you can withstand the tackiness, look beyond the big hair and notice what some of them are wearing. I was a child of the ’80s, so fortunately I didn’t get too caught up in that craziness. But looking back, you have to wonder how in the world people thought that was cool!

Can anyone explain how that was ever considered fashionable? I have no idea… Did we just overlook that because some of the music was good? Could there be any other possible explanation?

caption contest, man on upstairs rails

It’s Monday, so you know what that means — another caption contest!  This week’s picture probably does contain at least a thousand words worth of captions.  So let’s get to writing.

If you’re new to this, the plan is simple — figure out what’s going on in the picture and write something funny about it.  You can invent whatever background circumstances necessary to support your idea.  You can embellish the story, or you can completely make it up from scratch.  You could also base it off current news.  Either way, just have fun with it.

awesome music video with infectious dancing

I just came across a crazy Indian music video called Tunak Tunak Tun.   For some reason, this reminds me of the ’80s… but in a funny way.  I would like for you to watch it, then let’s talk about it.   🙂

Please watch the video before continuing reading, to get the full experience.  It starts a little slow, but then it jams, and these guys have some funky-fresh dance moves.  🙂

I have to wonder, would it be better if you could tell what they’re saying?  And speaking of that, do any of you have any idea what this video is about?  Every time I try to figure that out, I’m just speechless…

I did some research* and this was the first Indian video to use a blue screen.  And apparently the Tunak Dance is popular, and there’s even a parody of it in World of Warcraft.  I also found another video of it, where someone put the lyrics on the screen.  That’s helpful, because it’s kinda hard to interpret what they’re saying.

* That is, I browsed YouTube.

Here’s the version with some lyrics on the screen.  I know, you just watched it, but it gets funnier each time you watch it.  Trust me.

Have you watched the second video yet?  If so, let’s continue.

Okay, so the lyrics might have been an interpolation rather than an interpretation or translation.   But at least now we know it has something to do with bears.

Are any of you curious to what the actual lyrics are in English?  Well, I found a link for you.  But before I reveal that, remember that curiosity killed the cat.  Although I don’t think any of my regular readers are cats.  (If you are, e-mail me because I have a secret mission for you.)  If you really want to know the translated lyrics, you can read them here.  And by read, I mean read them as subtitles to the music video.  Yes, you have to watch it again!  MUWAHAHAHA!

Actually, this video gets funnier each time I watch it.
