bacon chili

After yesterday’s post on bacon pancakes, some of the staff here at Buffet o’ Blog were discussing new uses of bacon, and we wondered why we never hear anything about a bacon chili…  Surely that would be good!  (FYI, I’m not talking about chili where bacon is the only meat… I mean in addition to the normal quantities of beef, steak, or venison you would use.)

I think some research is in order (and I’m not talking about using Google — I want to try it myself).  We need to have a taste test competition, where we all make our own chili, but you have to include bacon.

Has anybody out there ever had chili with bacon in it?

pancakes with a secret ingredient

I had lunch yesterday with a guy who said he recently cooked some pancakes in bacon grease.  And wouldn’t you know, the infamous Important Doctor was sitting next to him, grinning like he was smart or something.  The guy who invented this said they were really good, but he decided to limit how many he did that way because it couldn’t be healthy at all.  He said it created a slightly crunchy shell around the pancake that tasted great.  I’d like to try one…

I imagine you could add bacon grease to a lot of dishes to make them better, and the Important Doctor claims this is good for you, but I have yet to see any documented proof of this.  If only he would create some graphs to show how that works…

update on iBlogCup for April 2008

Regarding the iBlogCup I mentioned last week in a post, there’s some good news and some bad news.  So let’s start with the good news : we got the 4th most votes out of the 32 blogs.  However, the blog in our “bracket” was one of the three that got more votes than us, so we didn’t advance.

That doesn’t really seem fair, but so it goes.  Also, some blogs got 0 votes but got to advance because their competitor got 0 votes, and the one that was nominated first gets to advance in case of a tie.  So it’s too bad we weren’t up against one of those!  But either way, a few people came to the blog from iBlogCup.com, so hopefully they’ll stick around.

Another thing that doesn’t seem fair is that the blog we were up against in the first round finished 2nd overall in the previous month.  But I guess there’s no rules against re-entering, so maybe we will too.

add your own captions, basketball photo

It’s now time for another caption contest.  Since the NCAA Tournament (March Madness) just completed and the NBA playoffs are approaching, I’m going to use a basketball-themed picture this time.

The “rules” are the same as last time.  You can make up what one of the people in the picture is saying (whether the primary ones or the onlookers), or you can write commentary or analysis for it like you’re an announcer.  Or you can just write what you think about it.  So figure out what you would say here.  (There is one rule — keep it clean.)
