buying all the most expensive cheese

Novak Djokovic meme - donkey cheeseThe world’s #1 ranked tennis player, Novak Djokovic, has bought the world’s entire supply of donkey cheese.  It’s the world’s most expensive cheese, and it’s called pule.  It’s made in one farm in the world, and it takes 25 liters of donkey milk to make 1 kilogram of pule.  It sometimes sells for over $500 per pound.  It supposedly has 60 times more Vitamin C than cheese from cow’s milk.

Djokovic is opening a chain of restaurants which will feature this cheese, so he bought the upcoming year’s supply of it for his own use.  Supposedly this cost him millions of dollars, but he can afford it.  He’s been a top 3 tennis player in the world for several years now, and last year he made $19.8 million.

The Buffet o’ Blog staff has talked about opening our own restaurant, but we’ve never considered cornering the market on a single ingredient.  There’s an obvious reason for that — it takes beaucoups of money.  Instead, we’ll just have to create the most awesome restaurant, which I’m confident we could do, given a reasonable amount of investment.  Somebody out there has more money than ideas, and we’re still waiting for their people to contact our people.  If you know one of these people, give ’em a swift kick or light a fire under ’em (not literally), to push them in the right direction.  I know there’s already some great restaurants, but it’s clear that many places just don’t get it.  For example, I know of restaurants that don’t use any bacon… for anything.  Obviously, you don’t have to, but given the fact that bacon makes almost any dish considerably better, why would you not have bacon in your restaurant?  These things seem like common sense to us, but as the saying goes, common sense isn’t.

Do we need more super-sized burgers in America?

Saw an article the other day that started with this sentence:

If there’s one thing we need more of in America, it’s eight-pound hamburgers.

That’s something you don’t hear too often.  There might’ve been a touch of sarcasm if you read in-between the lines (even though it’s only one line).  Besides, who could even eat an 8-pound hamburger?  Probably not even Adam Richman of Man v. Food fame.

What we do need is restaurants offering more options on burgers — like to include copious amounts of bacon, fried egg, various cheeses, ham, different sauces (BBQ, chipotle, cheese dip), etc.  Actually, perhaps bacon should come standard on all burgers.  Why wouldn’t you want bacon on your burger?  [pause to venture deep in thought]  I got nothing.

This is just another reminder that Buffet o’ Blog needs some venture funding to start our own restaurant.

eating while your wife shops

As I mentioned in the last post, I was recently in Branson with the in-laws on vacation for a weekend, and I knew the women would be doing some shopping.  There’s a few outlet malls there, plus the newer promenade mall.  I can take only so much shopping, unless it’s for electronics or games.

I was talking about this with one of my friends, and he had an interesting suggestion for something I could do while the women are shopping:

Find an all-you-can-eat buffet and try to make a day of it. If your wife mentions that you probably don’t need to eat that much, you can always reference the fact that she probably doesn’t really need to shop that much either. Tell her that the sooner she gets back from shopping to pick you up, that is the sooner you will stop eating.

I like this idea.  It would tie-in with the idea of the last post where a store offers an atmosphere for men along with lots of nachos and other good eats.  But even without such a place, there are plenty of all-you-can-eat restaurants in Branson.  If my wife thinks I should eat less to help me lose weight, she can shop less, which will save money.  So it’s a win-win situation!

I mentioned this idea to my wife, but she failed to see the logic of it…

What do you mean “out of bacon”???

I went to a local Mexican restaurant at lunch today, and there was a problem.  One of the guys with me ordered fajitas with steak, chicken, shrimp, and bacon, which is an excellent combination.  Sometimes I order that dish, but today I changed it up.  I ordered a dish called pollo zapata, which is like pollo asado (grilled chicken breast covered with cheese dip) but with mushrooms and bacon.

When the waiter (who I know) brought my food, he said, “Sorry, we’re out of bacon.”  That’s it.  The rest of the food arrived, but to me it was incomplete.  The bacon from this place has a good smoky flavor, which is most excellent.  (Of course, it’s good regardless, because it is bacon, after all.)  He didn’t inform me until my food was delivered, then nothing extra was done about it.  That’s disappointing.

I asked my friend if his fajitas had bacon, and they did not, but the waiter didn’t even say anything to him about it.  Needless to say, he was disappointed also.

So what should they do when bacon is missing?  I’m sure there’s varied opinions here, but they could at least let us know before they fix the food, in case we want something else.  Or they could offer a discount.  Or they could include extra cheese dip.  But nothing was done.  That’s also disappointing.

Maybe this is just another sign that the Buffet o’ Blog staff should open our own restaurant.  If we had the required funding, I have no doubt that we could create one of the most awesome restaurants ever.  We have so many great ideas.  Plus, we’d make sure we didn’t run out of bacon!  If our stockpile was ever in danger of reaching its expiration date, we’d cook it up and give extra bacon to the customers.  Or we could put up a sign outside that said “FREE BACON!”.  I guarantee that would bring in some extra customers!

See, why don’t other restaurants think of stuff like this?  Obviously we must have a dizzying intellect, or have boundless inspiration and creativity, or think so far out of the box that we’re like, “What box?”  Or maybe all of the above.  Either way, we have a copious abundance of epiphanies when it comes to designing the ultimate restaurant.

We would like to see this come to pass, for a few reasons — it would be exciting; we’d want to eat there a lot; it would make lots of money.  So if you’re an investor type person with lots of extra money, have your people contact our people.  We’ve been documenting our restaurant ideas for a while now, and we’d like to see this come to pass.
