epic fails in amateur athletics

Some readers have requested more funny videos, so I’m bringing you another one.  It’s easy enough to find funny videos by searching YouTube, but that usually ends up wasting a lot of time, so I don’t do that too often.  This video happens to be a commercial for Liberty Mutual Insurance called Amateur Athletes.  Normally I’d prefer to link to a non-commercial video, but this one is actually pretty good.  It could also be called athletics gone wrong or epic fails in athletics.

If you’re still unsure about whether or not to spend 30 seconds watching this, here’s what happens: There’s a guy who tries to dunk a basketball but fails in a spectacular way, a guy who tries to do a roundhouse kick but learns he’s no Chuck Norris, and a guy throwing a football that starts a fire in a tailgater’s car.  Classic stuff…  I bet they had fun making this commercial.

There needs to be more commercials where stuff catches on fire…  🙂

dancing in a restaurant

I saw a commercial tonight that was kinda amusing because of the overreactions in it (as they clearly state), but it got me to thinking.  First, the commercial, for Applebee’s:

These actors do a passable job of getting their groove on, but I thought about how this might apply to some of my lunch outings with the guys.  If some of my friends got up and started trying to dance all funky, people all around the restaurant might lose their appetite.  Some folks need to keep their “moves” at home.  I’m jus’ sayin’…  🙂

taking tacos where they’ve never been before

Taco Bell has a new commercial that says they’re “taking tacos where they’ve never been before”.  That sounds like a good figurative phrase, but they were actually using it literally — they used a helicopter to take a food delivery truck filled with 10,000 Doritos Locos Tacos to a town in Alaska, because of the prank/hoax someone had played on the entire town.

That’s a neat idea.  It also would’ve been cool if they had dropped 10,000 tacos over the town from an airplane.  That would be something to see!  (Well, I wouldn’t want that to happen in my area, because it would also create a huge mess.  But hey, free tacos.)

So, um, I’d like to start a rumor that a Taco Bell is coming soon to my house…  🙂

Let’s take the phrase more figuratively.  What would you do to make tacos better than ever?  One taco variation I’m waiting for is the chicken-bacon-ranch taco.  If you use quality ingredients, it would surely be most awesome.  (The Buffet o’ Blog staff are all huge fans of the chicken-bacon-ranch pizza at Larry’s Pizza.  Just put that in a taco shell and it would be great.)  I figure a pizza taco would be great, too — use pork sausage and pepperoni with pizza sauce and lots of cheese, inside a taco shell.

What ideas do you have to make the ultimate taco?

hibachi-style chef at Taco Bell

It’s good when companies will put a little effort into their commercials and make them at least mildly entertaining.  (I know, it’s preferable to not watch any commercials, but sometimes I watch sports games live.)

Taco Bell has a new commercial featuring a chef doing special moves while preparing their chicken flatbread sandwiches.  If only this was how it really was done.

I like the use of the mini-flamethrower…  I’ve got to get one of those!

I should prepare a routine like that for when I have company over.  I’ve always said it would be fun to have my own hibachi grill at home.  I can throw food and knives around.  🙂
