impressed by throwing shoes

The other day an Iraqi journalist in Baghdad, Iraq, took his shoes off during a speech by President Bush and threw them at the President (and now faces up to 15 years in prison).  That’s crazy, right?   But the story has taken an even crazier turn.  An Egyptian man was so impressed that he has offered his 20-year-old daughter in marriage to that journalist.  The father said, “I find nothing more valuable than my daughter to offer to him.”  The daughter is okay with this idea, saying, “This is something that would honor me.  I would like to live in Iraq, especially if I were attached to this hero.”

To that, I have to say, WHAT?!?

Even if you agree with the journalist’s idea of throwing your shoes at President Bush, how can you support it THAT much?  That guy is NOT a hero!

The world is a crazy place…

In America, when someone throws an article of clothing at you it usually means they want you in a good way (i.e. Tom Jones’s fans tossing various undergarments and such). So was he Tom Jonesing for the president and got cold feet when he got caught? You decide.

Now I understand why Islam is so popular — throw your shoes at a guy you hate, and you are instantly a hero and have women wanting to marry you for it. Of course, they can also blow themselves up and get 72 women.

On that note, I’ve never had 72 women at once, so there’s a lack of research in this area, but I can imagine it wouldn’t be heavenly… That’s nothing against women, of course, but expecting 72 to get along over one man, I can foresee problems…

That’s crazy for sure, but it continues… A man in Saudi Arabia has offered $10 million for just one of the shoes. Too bad for the man that the government destroyed the shoes in case they had a bomb in them.

And Libya has awarded the man a medal of courage.

This sets a bad example. If Iraqi kids think they can make millions of dollars and be a national hero just for throwing their shoes, imagine how bad it’s going to be the next time a U.S. President goes over there…
