Slobs more productive!

Information has recently come to light revealing that slobs may actually be MORE productive than their more ‘organized’ counterparts.   A new book entitled “A Perfect Mess: The Hidden Benefits of Disorder” makes this groundbreaking claim.

 In the book they argue that “neatness is overrated, costs money, wastes time and squashes creativity.  They make some really good points in the article… like neatness is expensive! 

“People who are really, really neat, between what it takes to be really neat at the office and at home, typically will spend anywhere from an hour to four hours a day just organizing and neatening” also “Hunting through messy piles has it’s value… You discover things that, if you had filed things or containerized them or purged them, you would never have seen them again.  It becomes a natural reminder system”

    One thing stood out to me from that article :

    > neatness is expensive!

    Then I deserve a raise, because I’m saving the company money! 🙂

    According to a recent study by important people across the U.S., the reason why obesity is so prevelant in the sedentary workplace is due to a lack of funding towards health and fitness programs offered to employees by major corporations.

    “I am fat because my boss will not fork over the money to have a gym placed conviently down the hallway from my cubicle!” says a local computer programer of a multi-billion dollar information database corporation.

    A telephone sales representative spoke VERY quickly about of the lack of convience in the sedentary workplace. “I can’t take it anymore! I don’t want to go over to the building next door and work out with state of the art health equipment. I want to have the opportunity to exercise close by without having to expend uneccessary energy.”

    An important money grubbing lawyer said at a press conference in Washington D.C. today, “My clients are appalled by the callousness of their employers in not having exercise facilities within 1 floor of the work station. It is the fault of these wealthy CEOs to cater to the needs of every employee and since this has not been accomplished, we have decided to take legal action.”

    However, many in the U.S. feel that those who are slobs, not necessarily overweight, are actually more productive in the workplace. The prestigous Buffet-o-Blog has reported that over-achievers are costing businesses millions of dollars in uneccessary maintenence of the work station.

    I agree with the news report. The company I work at has an exercise facility, but you have to walk all the way across campus to get there. It’s just too tiring… besides, they give me so much work to do that there just isn’t time. If they would allocate an hour during the work day for exercise, that would be great! Then I wouldn’t be overweight. And perhaps they should employ some type of shuttle service over there, too…

    I agree… my company also has a gym (located inconveniently across campus) I’ve tried going a few times but by the time I walked the distance I was too tuckered to exercise any more. Luckily I was able to hitch a ride back to my building. To make matters worse Im actually having to pay for a gym membership that I can’t use because of the location of the building. whats a guy to do?
