Yanni’s inspiration for his music

YanniFab called me the other night to tell me that Yanni was on TV, performing a concert.   I’m not a Yanni fan — his music makes me sleepy and bored — but it can be amusing / funny because some of his playing is so predictable, and because his “emotive acts” are over-acted.  He sometimes makes fist pumps during mellow music, and he waves his arms around at various times.  And in his music, there’s often a certain “turn” that appears in many songs multiple times.

Speaking of Yanni, I came across one of his quotes one time, and it reveals something about his life and why his music is like it is:

I take life’s experiences and translate them into music. ~ Yanni

What that says to me is that Yanni needs to get out more and get some excitement in his life!   He has put out a LOT of mellow music, so maybe he needs to add some exciting events to give him more exciting inspiration for his music.   Perhaps he could follow a professional or collegiate sports team, or watch action movies, or read this blog, etc.

Yanni has also said at times that he doesn’t listen to music.  That seems quite ironic, given that he is a musician.  I wonder what effect it would have on his music if he listened to some of the great music out there…

How dare you insult the “Beethoven” of our modern Era??!! I am so flustered, I could just rip off my silky pink sweater and throw it across room.

Yanni has given us profound musical talent. I smell jealousy. and it stinks. 😦

    Shame on you, Mr. Beppo.
If that is your real name.

I don’t know how you could even mention Beethoven in a Yanni discussion, unless you are talking about polar opposites. Have you ever listened to them???

Talking about Yanni’s “profound musical talent” (as you say), what you are smelling isn’t jealousy, it’s crap, and you’re standing in it.

That said, some people enjoy the crap that is Yanni’s music. Here’s an example that was mentioned on this blog a few years ago.

wow… ‘yawni’ IS boring… in fact I almost fell asleep just reading this article about him. Maybe he could take a second job curing people by working in a sleep clinic?

I cannot say this music (it is not even music to me)has any talent or soul in it. It sounds very predictable, boring and most of all – EMPTY and USELESS!!! Yanni is probably one of the most overrated, talentless, self-centered people out there, I won’t call him a musician, like I said – it is NOT music and to compare him to great composers like Beethoven is just stupid. This “creator” should be compared to talentless idiots out there like Kenny G, Madonna, Celine Dion, Michael Bolton and others. If you really want to know what new age music sounds like try early Tangerine Dream, Terry Riley, Brian Eno, Harold Budd or Jean-Michel Jarre and Kit Watkins if the other bunch is too heavy for you. THERE is a lot of good music out there, somehow people tend to listen to CRAP. I just want to say I feel sorry for them.
