the new theme

As you might’ve noticed, we’re testing a new graphical theme here.  It may still have some design issues to work through, but I’m not gonna keep putting it off until everything is perfect.  It’s not like the last one was perfect, anyway.  🙂

The background image will change, perhaps numerous times.  For starting out, it has a picture of lightning that I took.  If anyone would like to contribute custom images for the background (that are copyright-free, of course), they will be considered.  The header image will change, too, from time to time.  Change is good, right?

I know this post doesn’t say much, but it’s announcing change.  And from working in a large IT company a few years ago, I learned that a reorg (reorganization) is a sign of progress, even if nothing actually changes.  It sounds productive, anyway.  Maybe it promotes increased “synergy”, whatever that is supposed to mean.  So consider this progress toward making this a better blog.  🙂

The last caption contest was definitely not action-packed (not that they have to be).  This week’s photo has both calmness and fire at the same time.  How that all fits into the story is up to you.  It involves a woman tending her garden while a big fire with dark clouds of smoke rages nearby.

Let’s see what you can come up with to explain this scenario.  Did the woman have anything to do with the fire?  If not, who did?  What’s burning?  Might this possibly tie in with a previous caption contest?  Is there a way to connect it to current events?  Use your imagination.  Have fun with it.

The circus is in town!  Okay, not literally, but that looks to be the case for this week’s caption contest.  There’s a woman dressed in a clown suit, and she’s jumping rope with hot dogs.  It’s up to you to figure out a story / joke / pun for this picture.  Remember, it can be from the clown’s perspective, or the people watching, or the employers, or anyone.  Just keep it clean.  If you don’t have anything to add, you can still enjoy the comments of others.

antelope tackling bicycle rider & bread helmet man

Apparently the viral video of the day is a bicycle rider getting knocked down by an antelope during a race in Africa.  It is quite unusual and unexpected. It was also unexpected to see it on TV twice already in one day.  But since it’s so popular, I’ll post it here for you, so you can tell all your friends and co-workers that you saw it and they should watch it too.  After all, this is what’s popular.  Maybe it’s even the cat’s pajamas…

Now don’t you feel cooler?  You are now in the know.  Although, by the time you’re reading this, this video might be old news.  There’s probably another video already gone viral that everyone is talking about.

Sometimes you can’t predict what will be viral next.  For example, someone can just show up to a protest with bread taped to their head and become an Internet meme.  He was just trying to “protect” himself against makeshift projectiles, so some protesters made makeshift “armor”.  Now this guy is known as Bread Helmet Man, and he’s appeared in “photographs” all around teh internets…  A few examples…

I wonder if he has any idea of his 15 megabytes of fame…

FYI, I already know the Bread Helmet Man meme is old (in Internet years, anyway).  But it was never referenced here, and it certainly is random, and the post just needed something else…  Was it worth your time?  Wait, don’t answer that.  Keeping up with viral videos and memes often isn’t worth your time, which is why they aren’t closely followed here…  And my rambling about wasting your time might not be worth your time, so I’ll stop typing now.
