Biden on Obama’s broken teleprompters

To some, Joe Biden is funny.  What makes him funny is that he usually isn’t trying to be funny, but he makes so many verbal mistakes.  Some even call him the “human gaffe machine”.  In this video clip, he was giving a speech and the teleprompter blew over, so he made a joke at the expense of himself and Obama.

It’s good to be able to laugh at yourself, but isn’t it kinda sad that there’s such a reliance on teleprompters that Obama and Biden are known for extreme stuttering and making ridiculous unintended statements when they don’t have them?  I mean, this is the President and Vice-President of the United States, some of the most powerful and influential people in the world!  I know it’s more difficult to speak “off the cuff”, but they should know what they’re doing!

Oh, wait, I got kinda serious there.  This is the wrong blog for that.  My bad…  Let’s go in a different direction.

If you happen to see a question-and-answer session or an interview with Obama where he doesn’t have a teleprompter, you could count how many times he says “Uhh” per minute.  I used to do that with one of my foreign teachers in college who could barely speak English.  (He averaged about 15 times per minute, which is once every four seconds.  Imagine listening to that the whole class!)  Counting this with Obama won’t cause you to miss much — he usually doesn’t answer the question anyway.  Of course he’ll give an answer, but often he “speaks around” the answer, making “politically correct” statements but not actually answering the question or leaving out the specifics.

caption contest, Barack Obama, President-Elect

Election day for 2008 has come and gone, and now Barack Hussein Obama is our President-Elect.  This is truly a historic time for our country, in numerous ways.  (Hopefully it will be the good kind of history.  Time will tell.)

Anyway, in order to commemorate this event and to give you an outlet for your thoughts on it (whether positive, negative, excited, scared, terrified, curious, crap-your-pants-horrified, elated, I-can’t-believe-this-just-happened, dumbstruck, I’m-moving-out-of-the-country, whatever), here’s a picture needing a caption.

So given the current state of affairs in the United States and that Barack Obama will be our next President, explain what Obama might be thinking in this picture.

offended at poop

Look at this…

poop in yard

I don’t have to tell you what this is.  This is poop.  You can call it crap, turds, or whatever colorful euphemism for feces you want.  Either way, it’s gross.  (As the saying goes, poop by any other name smells the same.)  But there’s no need for you to get offended… it’s not real poop.  It’s a picture of real poop, so what we have here is a virtual representation.  It doesn’t stink, and it won’t make a mess.  Go ahead and touch it.  See, nothing happens.  So don’t get all offended.

But I am offended.  The problem with this poop is that it’s in my yard.  But I didn’t put it there, neither did anyone associated with my household.  I have no pets at this time.  And I did not sign up for the fertilize-your-yard chain letter.  So this pile of poop was placed in my yard illegally.  Yeah, someone was trespassing.

I figure it was someone’s dog, but that’s still WRONG!  People shouldn’t let their dog poop in my yard!  If I knew who it was, I could toss it on their driveway, to make sure they took notice of it.

Let’s hope this doesn’t happen again, before bad things happen…

how Transformers CGI should have looked in the movie

If you’re a Transformers fan like me, you might’ve been disappointed by the redesign of the characters in the 2007 movie.  I very much was.  I was willing to accept some redesign, to be more modern, and in a few cases, to be more practical (like with Megatron and Soundwave).  But the movie took it way too far.

To give you a taste of how it could’ve looked, I present this video clip.  It’s the fight scene between Megatron and Optimus Prime, the one with the famous quote of “One Shall Stand, One Shall Fall”.  This starts as the original cartoon and switches into 3D CGI.

CGI rendering of G1 Transformers clip

[Update: 7/8/11]

Apparently Hasbro took the video down off their site, for whatever reasons.  But it’s still on YouTube:

A fan took this video and replace the audio with music from the original G1 cartoon series, which makes it even better:

It’s not the highest of CGI quality (due to budget and time, I’m sure), but it shows that the characters in the live-action movie could’ve been made closer to the originals and still looked good, especially with a high-dollar budget.  So why did Michael Bay and crew decide to totally change the design?  The new look for the Transformers in the movie didn’t have much personality, as they all looked too similar and generic.

Until someone does a live-action Transformers movie RIGHT, I’ll always wonder what might’ve been…
