caption contest, bird stealing ice cream

It’s the hot part of summer, when ice cream is so refreshing — even more than normal.  (I can eat ice cream any time of year, but it really hits the spot during these hotter-than-crazy-mad-hot days.)  And so this week’s caption contest features a man with an ice cream cone — well, what’s left of it after a bird has stolen most of it.  And some woman is laughing about it.

It’s up to you to write something funny to go along with this picture.  Remember it can be from anyone’s perspective, or just general commentary.  Or you can make up a backstory, or write what will happen next.  It really doesn’t matter, as long as it’s funny.

how to describe this heat wave

The past few days have been so hot we’ve been trying to figure out how to describe it.  Wednesday it was 110 here with a heat index over 120, with lots of humidity.  I think that goes beyond crazy-mad hot.  Our local weathermen are running out of adjectives and phrases for the forecasts.

So we came up with a new heat scale:

* The day-star, it burns
* That ain’t right hot
* Crazy-mad hot
* Unbelievably stupid-hot
* Is this Arizona?
* This heat is inconceivable!
* Warmageddon
* Heatastrophe
* Hot Attack
* So hot that if someone says “Hot enough for ya?” you’re allowed to punch them.
* Did you replace my sweet tea with jalapeno juice?
* It feels like I’m on fire
* I’m on fire
* No really, I’m actually on fire it’s so hot

restaurant review – Almost Famous

Today the Buffet o’ Blog staff tried a fairly new restaurant here in Conway, AR, called Almost Famous.  They specialize in smoked meats.  Need I say more?

I tried the pulled pork sandwich, which was good.  It was served on buttered Texas toast, with plenty of meat (on the regular size).  Their fries were of the steak-cut variety and were good.  The sweet tea was also good.  So I recommend it.  Sorry I didn’t get a picture… I was hungry.

They also have 1/2-pound hickory-smoked burgers and ribs and various other smoked meats.  I’d like to try it again sometime.  You can buy smoked meat by the pound, which I might have to look into (until I get a smoker).  You can even buy smoked bacon, which sounds promising.  They’re thinking about adding steaks and pork chops to their menu soon.

It’s located on Oak Street, going toward Vilonia, past the new fairgrounds, and it’s on the right.  They also have an area for outdoor dining, for other months.  Everyone that worked there was extra-friendly.  Their normal hours are 11-7.  It wasn’t crowded when we went.

FYI, I’m not affiliated with them, but I appreciate what they’re doing and want to spread the word since it’s out of the way and many people probably haven’t heard of it.

caption contest, guy on motorcycle upside down

In light of the X-Games that just finished up, here’s a caption contest featuring a man on a motorcycle doing some kind of crazy stunt.  Is he in the middle of an epic stunt that is going to end well, or is this an epic fail?  You get to decide.  You can also write funny commentary for this, whether from his perspective or the crowd’s or whoever.
