selling a permanent vacation

I saw a commercial from a company that sells timeshares, and as part of their promotional offer, they said:

“Wouldn’t it be great if you could make your vacation last the rest of your life?”

Yeah, of course it would!  Who wouldn’t buy that?  But of course they aren’t really offering that.  They want to sell you a place you can go on vacation that’s always there.  Although, you can’t go at any time or an unlimited amount, because you’re sharing it with other people in the program.

If you think about it, there are nearly endless vacation opportunities that are always there, whether you buy into this program or not.  Granted, their plan might be good if you want to go to their places on a regular basis, but that particular commercial was misleading.  If they were selling me a vacation that lasted the rest of my life, I’d buy it!  That’s like selling someone an early retirement.  If I could quit working and just vacation all I wanted to, I would, and I wouldn’t have to buy their program to do it.

If someone could sell an early retirement, that would be a highly desired product, because everyone wants that.  But, it would be crazy expensive, and the people who could afford it are the ones who can already afford to retire early…

parody videos of old-school games

Today I’m going to link to a few gaming-related videos.  Even if you’re not currently into gaming, these reference mostly “old-school” games like Super Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong, so almost everyone can relate to these.

What would it be like if someone combined two of the best games ever?  I’m talking about Super Mario Bros. and Doom.  Somebody made a Doom mod and then added some effects to merge it with Mario.  Check out the video : click here.

Here’s a video of a commercial for the first Super Smash Bros. game on the Nintendo 64.  It features live-action people in costume beating the crap out of each other.  It was a great introduction to the first game in this series.

Burger King commercials

Have you seen the Burger King commercial where some moms are in a car and are trying to run down “The King”?  (That is, the funny-looking Burger King guy, not Elvis.)  They are running over street signs and various other items on the side of the road.  There’s a small disclaimer that says “professional driver”, but I’m not so sure about that…  I mean, it was some women driving all over the road, running over stuff…  Maybe the disclaimer is just some legal “fine print” that is required so they don’t get sued…

I tried to find a video of it, and I’m sure it’s online somewhere, but I’m not going to search too long for it.  I do have a life.  🙂  But during my search on YouTube, I found a few others for Burger King that you might enjoy.

Mr. T made a commercial for Burger King in 1985.

And here’s one called “Simpsonize Me“, and it’s a promotion for the Simpsons Movie.  There’s also a commercial promoting the Krusty Burger, where Krusty fights The King.

Mr. T commercial for World of Warcraft

I know I just recently posted an article about funny TV commercials, and I’m not trying to make a habit of this, but this is one of the best commercials ever.  It’s Mr. T in an ad for World of Warcraft.  He’s a “night elf mohawk”.  And he goes off on the “condescending director”.  It is awesome.  I wish more of the ads on TV were like this.

There are also ads by William Shatner who is a “Shaman”, and a recreation of the He-Man opening scene, but none can compare to the one by Mr. T.
