smashing a roadster in slow-motion

This link isn’t funny, per se, but it is somewhat interesting in that a sports car gets smashed during crash testing.

Here’s a video of the Tesla Roadster (an electric sports car) being smashed from different angles, in super slow-motion because it was recorded at a thousand frames per second.

This footage cost the company about a million dollars per minute, but I’m glad they’re going through all that effort and expense to make vehicles safe.

Speaking of such things, perhaps they need to combine old and new technologies to make vehicles safer.  Some older vehicles are made of steel, which holds up pretty well in a wreck.  Mango-Man has an old 1963 Bel-Air, and the even the dash is made of steel!  However, that car lacks modern amenities like seat belts and air bags, so an upgrade would definitely be needed.  That would be cheaper for manufacturers than having to do all the modeling on the body and frame.

Here comes X-Guy to save the company!

There’s this company called Acxiom that has created a new mascot for marketing purposes.  They are calling him X-Guy.  (It used to be X-Man, but that was probably too close to lawsuit territory.)  Anyway, on the company homepage, there’s a flash video where he appears to rescue a marketer who is sitting at his computer in a cubicle.  If you’re thinking that sounds lame, you would be right, but that’s what makes it amusing.

While I normally applaud the use of humor by corporations and other professional groups, I’m thinking this particular methodology probably isn’t the best marketing strategy for a company that is in the information technology (IT) sector.  This is a company with $1.4 billion in annual revenue, yet this is how they are promoting their “X” brand.  They even issued a press release to announce their new website design.  (I don’t know why…)  Regardless of whether it’s a good strategy or not, they did it, so check it out and have a laugh.

Here’s the link : Acxiom homepage.

In the interest of full disclosure, I do not work for this company.  But I am somewhat familiar with it, for various reasons.

Burger King commercials

Have you seen the Burger King commercial where some moms are in a car and are trying to run down “The King”?  (That is, the funny-looking Burger King guy, not Elvis.)  They are running over street signs and various other items on the side of the road.  There’s a small disclaimer that says “professional driver”, but I’m not so sure about that…  I mean, it was some women driving all over the road, running over stuff…  Maybe the disclaimer is just some legal “fine print” that is required so they don’t get sued…

I tried to find a video of it, and I’m sure it’s online somewhere, but I’m not going to search too long for it.  I do have a life.  🙂  But during my search on YouTube, I found a few others for Burger King that you might enjoy.

Mr. T made a commercial for Burger King in 1985.

And here’s one called “Simpsonize Me“, and it’s a promotion for the Simpsons Movie.  There’s also a commercial promoting the Krusty Burger, where Krusty fights The King.

humor in the Wii Fit trailer

There’s a new game called Wii Fit coming out for the Nintendo Wii soon, and one of the trailers has some humorous moments in it.  The first part consists of players kicking soccer balls at you, and you must block them with your head.  This video is funny for three reasons : 1) the intro, where the game looks really lame with folks just jumping around;  2) the players sometimes kick other things at you, like their shoes and a panda head (WHAT?!?);  and 3) the thought that some people almost fall off the couch or bed trying to play video games with a standard controller — imagine them having to balance themselves and move around quickly while responding to all that’s going on; that could be funny.
