bracket for greatest video game character

It’s March Madness, which means many people are filling in brackets for who they think will win the NCAA basketball tournament.  That’s written about plenty of times, so it’s refreshing to see the concept used for other things.  Case in point: Patrick Hruby of ESPN.com created a bracket for the greatest video game character ever.  Of course there are some omissions, but nonetheless it brings back a lot of great memories if you’ve been a gamer for a while.  And even if you aren’t familiar with all the games, there are some links to pictures and video clips.

voting should be more fun

This is the day that most of the nation goes to the polls to vote.  Not only is it the Presidential election, but various other political offices, too.  So obviously it’s important.  Every citizen should vote.  And it stands to reason that if you don’t vote, you shouldn’t have the right to complain about who gets elected.

But just because something is important, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t also be fun!  Either some people don’t see it that way, or they haven’t realized how much better it would be if it were also fun.  (If they don’t believe me, then they’re just wrong.)

People would be more likely to vote if it didn’t involve hours and hours of standing in line with absolutely nothing going on.  I’ve been through this, and it gets boring FAST!  You have thousands of bored people standing around, the smell of body odor accumulating in the place (because there’s never a fresh breeze, for whatever reason), and the boringness of it just multiplies and spreads.

So here’s some ideas:

  • Have a talent competition, with the judges being people waiting in line.  Contestants in the competition have to be people who are there to vote.
  • Have a cell phone ringtone competition.  (I would win that one, but I wouldn’t always be there, so other people will get to win some, too.)
  • Have a concession stand (that doesn’t charge rip-off prices).  Have a drawing for free nachos every hour.
  • Have arcade machines that can be played for free, where you play for a minute then the next person in line continues the game.

I could go on, but you get the idea.  If you have any ideas, put it in the comments section.

recreation of original Punch-Out

There is a new version of the original Punch-Out!! coming to the Nintendo Wii!  As you probably recall, this was originally released on the first Nintendo, the NES, as Tyson’s Punch-Out!! and was one of the best games on that system.  And, the original game is still fun.

This is a recreation of the original game, using updated graphics and using the Wii’s motion controls, so it has a lot of potential.

Here’s the first trailer for the new Punch-Out!!

Of course, this new version has a lot to live up to, with high expectations.  But hopefully the developers will keep the fun of the original while updating it.

It is scheduled to be released in Spring 2009.

I’m looking forward to it!  I don’t think it can be better than the original, but if they can make it anywhere close to as good as the original, it will be awesome!

Super Chuck Norris Bros.

What would happen if you mixed the classic Nintendo NES game Super Mario Bros. with Chuck Norris?  Someone has, and so they created Super Chuck Norris Bros. (Click on the title to watch a short demo video of it.)

This game would be the awesome!  Although, the difficulty would need to be turned up, because it is Chuck Norris, and he can’t be stopped.

The on-screen messages go too fast, but the first two say “Chuck Norris doesn’t need mushrooms!” and “Chuck Norris needs a shotgun!”  🙂  Actually, he would win without the weapons, but equipping him with a shotgun, grenades, flamethrower, and a chainsaw, makes him unstoppable.  He even destroys trees and clouds in the game!

I’d like to see adaptations of other games featuring Chuck Norris!
