making 0 = 1

I saw this on a website when I was researching return codes in programs :

Setting mx to zero is equivalent to setting mx to one.

Uhh…  If your program makes 0 = 1, wouldn’t that disrupt the laws of mathematics and physics?  Would this signal the end of the world as we know it?  Perhaps this is how you write a software emulation of bending the space-time fabric and making wormholes and time travel possible…

Okay, some of you may be thinking this speculation is absurd.  But if you just dismiss it and never follow these suspicious leads, you’ll never get to catch the great conspiracies.  I know, there’s no proof, but a great conspiracy is unprovable.

Umm… this isn’t really a random post; more like a nerdy post.

But really, is there any difference between nerdydom and randomdumb?

    I think not.

Exactly what are you trying to say, Kri’? Are you putting down nerds? Do you realize all this technology you take for granted was developed by nerds? This includes video games. (Just try and recover from that blow!)

Do people think all this neat technology just appears, that R&D departments aren’t necessary? It takes a lot of work. And it goes unappreciated by most. People still dis’ nerds, even here in the 21st century. Where would this world be without nerds? (You don’t want to imagine.)

I’m proud to say I’m a nerd (by most definitions). You don’t create complicated doomsday devices without excelling in math and physics. Have you ever tried to build a giant satellite that focuses the sun’s beams into one powerful stream, without using math and physics? It can’t be done! And these days you just can’t conquer the world without a lot of advance planning, which includes a lot of intelligence. That’s why people like you will never rise to such great levels, because you stay home playing your Nintendo, making fun of nerds (while you fill their bank accounts by buying their games). You may laugh now, while I’m still in college finishing my doctorate, studying advanced topics like quantum cosmology and 4-dimensional Riemannian quantum gravity, but when I unleash my plan for world domination, you will be in awe.

What's on your mind?
