evil spam comments

Here at Buffet o’ Blog, we’ve started getting some spam comments, which thus far have been deleted when spotted.  But if you see one, they look like this :

you`re compelling. http://www.aminnesota.com

enjoyable. http://www.fgeorgia.com

noticeable. http://www.amississippi.com

I’d recommend not visiting these sites.  In Firefox they seem to not do anything (of the two I tried), but IE is a lot less secure.  (In fact, don’t visit any websites in IE — use Firefox.  Maybe you’ve used IE for years, but don’t get stuck on stupid.)

This seems to be a trend here — a stupid, nonsensical comment that doesn’t fit, followed by a website that’s a letter and then a state name.  And Askimet isn’t catching these yet.  So our highly underfunded R&D team is working on an exclusive defensive attack against these evil spam ‘bots.  We’re gonna call it the Evil Spam ‘Bot Destroyer 2000 (TM).  We will not just block them but destroy them.  We have not yet begun to fight!

In the meantime, please continue to enjoy our exclusive random content, which is made from scratch every morning.  We’ll keep bringing you the best randomness your money can’t buy.  Because it’s FREE!  And the site isn’t for sale.  Although if you’re someone who has lots of money to waste, I mean, invest, and you happen to see (imagine) the vast profit potential behind our infrastructure of randomness, then let’s talk.  Or even if you don’t want the whole site yet, but perhaps you just want to buy a post, send us money and you can have your name in front of dozens of people from around the world.  But we’re not after your money, really.  We provide this great random content just because we care about you, the reader.  But if we could make a few dollars so we can go buy some chocolate-filled donuts, well, it would be stupid to pass that up.  And we’re not stupid.  So there ya go…

Mmm… chocolate-filled donuts… 🙂

There’s been more evil spam comments, on these posts, which look like this (plus a website link after the dumb comment, which has been deleted) :

on “how to defuse a ninja” :
    you`re superior.

    on “!!! BREAD IS DANGEROUS !!!” :
    this is lovely.

on “need a college diploma?” :
    this is good looking.

    on “I’m hungry now…” :
    this is magnificent.

See how retarded they are? Fortunately Askinet has started catching some of these, since I’ve been marking them as spam.

And you have to figure there’s some malicious reason they’re doing this… there’s some reason, and it’s something stupid.

Fortunately Akismet is great at catching comment spam, because there have been over 3400 attempts at this blog and over 5800 at my other blog.

Just today, someone (or, most likely, a ‘bot) tried to post quite a few spam comments on various posts, then tried this statement (with a link to their own site, of course) :

You have so much spam in here.. (

That’s really ironic, considering they’re contributing to the problem! I’m very fortunate the filter catches most of it or I wouldn’t have time to moderate both my blogs.

Today in the news, two computer programmers from South Korea were arrested for sending out 1.6 billion spam e-mails between last September and December. They are suspected of obtaining personal and financial data from 12,000 people who responded to their spam messages, then selling the data to lending services firms for $106,400.

It’s hard to fathom 1.6 billion, so let’s break that down into smaller chunks. That’s sending out 9,107 e-mails every minute of every day for those 4 months.

I hope authorities continue to crack down on spammers, because it’s bad for the infrastructure of the Internet, plus it’s annoying and wastes so much time.

What's on your mind?
