World Record Burger

I was showing some of the guys pictures of the “twin towers of cholesterol” today, and they were curious to see what the biggest burger ever made looked like.  So after much research* I found what I was looking for…

* research consisted of a quick google.

Behold the “Absolutely Ridiculous Burger”:

world record burger -- largest

This burger weighs in at a Artery Clogging 164.5 lbs… yes, that’s right — 164.5 pounds!

They claim that this is the “largest hamburger commercially available.”  And I would believe it!  Look at this monster!   For only $399 and 72 hours notices you can order your very own.   It’s actually on the menu!  (They also sell a 10-pound burger, plus a 1/2 pound burger for wusses.)

It appears we need to have another cookout at Fab’s to see if we can top this one.

I also found another burger that deserves “honorable mention” — they call it the bacon-cheese-pizza-burger!

Want to make one?  They describe how:

“Just take a giant beef patty, eggs, bacon, colby, pepper jack cheese, and throw everything in-between 2 large meat pizzas.”  Yum.

The site also states that they “will not be held responsible for your upcoming heart attack if you decide to eat one these monstrosities.”

man vs food – super burger challenge

The other day I saw a new show on the Travel Channel called MAN v. FOOD.  (BTW, that’s an awesome title, especially once you learn what it’s about).  The host, Adam Richman, goes around the country to various restaurants, and eats the spiciest foods, and he also takes on challenges at restaurants.  That’s my kind of show.

I’ve only seen a couple of episodes so far, but one I saw was at this restaurant in Boston, and it was voted the 2nd best place to pig out in the U.S.  They specialize in burgers.  They sell a monster burger with fries, and if anyone can eat it all within an hour, they name it after that person and then create a bigger one.  The current challenge is called the Eagle’s Burger Challenge.

eagles-deli-challenge-burgerThe challenge is a cheeseburger with 5 pounds of beef — but it’s not one giant patty, it’s 10 half-pound patties.  And it has 20 strips of cheese, 20 strips of bacon, and a LOT of fries — 5 pounds.   In fact, all that together weighs 12 pounds.  The owner estimates 1500 people have tried this one but no one has defeated it.

On the show, Richman competed against a former employee of that restaurant (who had obviously done some prior “training”).  Richman ate almost 7 pounds of it, but his competition ate a little over 7 pounds of it.  Before they got that far, though, they were sweating from processing that much greasy food.   Try to imagine how that would feel…

I wonder what the “Important Doctor” thinks about that burger, since he promotes a bacon and cheese diet and has other unusual views on eating…

the ultimate burger

One of our resident food experts here at Buffet o’ Blog was thinking about ways to improve the standard cheeseburger.  Not that it necessarily needs improving, but if you can make it even better, why not?  So here, in layer form, is his masterpiece:

Bun
Cheese
Breaded Chicken Patty
Sauce (BBQ, ranch, ketchup, Miracle Whip, whatever)
Bacon
Burger
Cheese
More Bacon
Sauce
Ham
Cheese
Bun

Maybe we should add another bun in the middle, just for structural support.  I think cheese is the only thing holding it together.  But if it gets much larger, you’d need to unhinge your jaw like a python just to eat it.  (Maybe that would be a good marketing slogan : “So much burger, you’ll have to unhinge your jaw.”)

What do you think?  Is this the ultimate burger, or can you think of something better?
