Worker flicks wrong switch, costs his company $11 mln

Think you've had a bad day at work? This is bad :

CALGARY, Alberta (Reuters) – A worker accidentally tripping a shut-off switch at a major Ontario plastics plant will cost Nova Chemicals Corp. $11 million in lost profit, the company said on Wednesday, because it won't be able to fulfill some contracts because of the blunder.

They haven't fired him yet, which is good. They're investigating the situation first. Nonetheless, he's got to be concerned about his job.

a $100 hamburger

A restaurant in Florida is offering a $100 hamburger.  And it doesn't even come with cheese…  (I wonder how much that costs to add?)  It is a 20-oz. burger, so it's big, but that's still crazy.  The patty is made of beef from three continents.  But you may ask, how can they get away with charging $100?  The answer — the restaurant is in a resort where the membership costs $40,000 plus an additional $3,600 per year.

Still, I don't care how much money I ever make, even if it was millions, I don't see the sense in paying $100 for a hamburger.  I doubt it's any better than a fresh, greasy burger from the Sale Barn here…

scientists produce flatulence-free beans

In the news, scientists have discovered you can ferment beans with a friendly bacteria to reduce the amount of gas you get from them.  This process also increases the bean's nutritional value by 97%.  But this takes all the fun out of them…

being overweight can be good for your health

Many health "experts" claim that being fat is really bad for you, but today in the news was an example of where being overweight can actually be good for your health :

Bulky man barely injured as car rolls over him

BERLIN (Reuters) – A 440 pound German man discovered that being overweight can be good for your health — if you get run over by a car.

German police said the extra body mass prevented the 30-year-old man from suffering potentially fatal injuries when a Volkswagen Polo drove over him after he braked suddenly on his bicycle at a crossroads and fell off in front of the car.

"It certainly helped him in this case," said Sven-Marco Claus, a spokesman for police in the western town of Gifhorn on Monday. "Someone smaller would probably not have been so lucky."

The man dislocated his hip, which local doctors put back in place, but otherwise suffered only scratches and a bloody nose from the underside of the vehicle, police said.
